Celebrate the release of John Gorham and Liz Crain's Hello! My Name Is Tasty: Global Diner Favorites from Portland's Tasty Restaurants with an open house party featuring complimentary passed breakfast-for-dinner dishes from the cookbook and other greatest hits from Tasty n Sons and Tasty n Alder. Books will be available for purchase on site or bring your pre-ordered book for John and Liz to sign.
PARR LUMBER GREAT SUMMER CHEF OFF
with PLAZA DEL TORO's MICHAEL KESSLER
The Parr Lumber Great Summer Chef Off, held at Bladberry Farm on Sauvie Island, brings together select Portland chefs for a BBQ cook-off event to benefit the Foundation’s scholarship program, which provides young Oregonians access to high-quality secondary education and mentorship support. The event also includes a short live auction and raise-the-paddle segment.
Presented by Parr Lumber, the cook-off features the culinary genius of St. Jack, Renata, Pearl Tavern and PLAZA DEL TORO, with dessert served by Portland’s own ‘farm-to-cone’ Salt & Straw. Guests enjoy wine and beer from Willamette Valley Vineyards, Domaine Drouhin, and Full Sail Brewery, and live entertainment by bluegrass local, Big Foot Mojo while chefs go head-to-head at the grill.
At the end of the evening, guests cast their vote for the chef with the best dish, each competing for grand prize winnings to benefit a Oregon children’s charity of his or her choice.
Toro Bravo Culinary Trip to Spain
with John Gorham

John Gorham wants to show you what’s behind his menu. Since he fell in love with Spanish food, he has been exploring every corner of Spain in order to bring the flavors of this country's incredibly diverse, storied, and inspiring cuisine back to Portland.
And now you can join John and his friends Alex from Aborígens and Toro Bravo Chef de Cuisine Pat Manning to taste some of his favorite products and dishes while traveling through Spain from east to west -- from Barcelona to San Sebastián -- and ending up in Rioja. This is going to be a super gastronomic journey, limited to only twelve guests, from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Coast where you will meet all sorts of artisan food producers, passionate winemakers, skilled fishermen, and renowned local chefs.
John got to meet and know the smart and savvy folks from Aborígens one dark, long night in Barcelona that started with too much vermouth (if that has ever existed). Together they have designed a once-in-lifetime itinerary of 11 days/10 nights (details below) taking place August 30th to September 9th, 2017.

Through the history of the Jewish people who fled Spain and Portugal more than 500 years ago comes a cuisine that reflects a safety lost but found again through food. Michael Solomonov of Zahav in Philadelphia is one of the leading U.S. chefs exploring this from a modern Israeli perspective. Sam Smith’s (Tusk, PDX) ground-breaking and vegetable-driven Middle Eastern menus have pushed the boundaries of what Portland has seen in this space. John Gorham (Toro Bravo, PDX) and Kasey Mills (Mediterranean Exploration Company, PDX) draw from extensive research and travels to Israel, Spain and the surrounding areas, to create exceptional plates that are culturally diverse yet cohesive. Come pay tribute to this outstanding cuisine and learn more through every bite.

These are four of the most critically acclaimed chefs in the country, all who work in intimate spaces and bring to life a fireworks display of influences from around the world. Ignacio Mattos (Estela, NYC) unpacks his Mediterranean meets New York style; Naomi Pomeroy (Beast, PDX) unfurls her signature French underpinnings with Pacific Northwest flair; Peter Cho (Han Oak, PDX) gently coaxes a fresh take on Korean cooking inspired by family; and Justin Woodward (Castagna, PDX), delivers the thoughtful precision of an astronomer brought to the plate. We think Portland native son James Beard himself would approve of this collaboration.

Sometimes you just want to go back to the basics. One of Feast’s last events, Pizza & Burgers is just that. Hosted at Pizza Jerk, the event will feature a live DJ, delicious pizzas from via a mobile pizza oven, burgers and pepperoni-friendly beverages. Stroll among the raised garden beds, and cap off a weekend of cuisine with two very American dishes. Culinary mind-blowing provided by Tommy Habetz (Pizza Jerk, PDX), Sarah Minnick (Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, PDX), John Gorham (Bless Your Heart Burgers, PDX) and Luke Zembo (Slow Bar, PDX).

This Chef’s Table dinner features Michael Kessler of Plaza Del Toro, restaurateur John Gorham’s (Toro Bravo, Tasty ‘N Sons) event space and test kitchen. Chef Michael has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in Las Vegas and New York, and will pull from a Spanish palate using local ingredients for this evening. Wine pairings by Elaine Testa of Casa Bruno Wines.
